Great tour through the Makkaris canyon!To get started, you should park your car at the end of the proper road (where the dam used to be). Get there with proper hiking shoes as the path is the riverbed. I‘d recommend to only hike to the marvelous canyon + 1 additional kilometer as the forest is burned which makes the second part of the circular trail quite ugly - so turn around then!If there should be water right at the parking spot, turn around. Most likely, the canyon will be flooded (should only happen during winter times).Enjoy:)
A small but very interesting canyon. One can see in this visit something different of the natural beauty of Rhodes
Perfect for half a day trail - you can leave your car at 36.217143,28.027554 and take road down to the bottom. Please note that in few places road has been washed down (probably in few years it will be hardly accessible if this level of erosion continues), so some scrambling will be needed and pebbles are very loose and slippery, and when going back up, depending on time of the day you will be in sunlight with almost no shade, so plan ahead. Once you reach river bottom just go left until the canyon, views are great, there are even some fishes crabs in the ponds below, so have fun and take great pictures, our kid loved this trail!
Definitely worth a visit. The road is extremely bad, so leave your car early and start walking.
