Hardly anyone can be found here during the week. Beautifully laid out “streets” or paths. Beautifully decorated buildings stand between dilapidated houses. It was not possible to view the inside.
You can do it, but you don't have to. However, you can see beautiful landscapes along the way.
No different from the other standard churches with bell towers in Rhodes. Nice to take with you when you are on your way to the larger monastery.
Here I don't actually give the 5 stars directly for the basilica, but rather for the route to it. You have fantastic views of the coast on this route. Anyone interested in places of worship will of course get their money's worth in the basilica. I recommend driving further into the mountains from the basilica to the town of Mesanagros. There is a kind of kiosk/tavern on one corner that invites you to linger
I recommend going to Mesanagros only if you have never seen any Lucanian mountain village ( ;-). We arrived in this remote mountain village at 2pm on a sunny Monday in September and there was really no one there; just a few sly cats lying in the sun. There is a single tavern right at the entrance to the village, which is closed at that time, as is the ancient and recently renovated church (it's a shame I wasn't able to visit it because it was also closed). You arrive from the Skiadi monastery, and the visit does not take too long. Nothing exciting. Not even as a panorama (among the mountains)
