Althemenis Fish Restaurant

The gentle breeze adds to the pleasant dining experience, creating an ideal spot for lunch or dinner.
🍽️ Culinary Experience: A Tale of Two Tastes
The food at Althemenis elicits a wide range of opinions, from rave reviews to strong disappointments, suggesting an inconsistent culinary experience.
👍 The Highlights (Mostly Fish)
- Reviewers frequently highlight the freshness and quality of the fish, describing it as "exceptionally good," "fresh and well made," and "delicious food." For those seeking authentic, well-prepared seafood, this appears to be a strong suit.
- The restaurant also caters to diverse palates, with offerings for vegetarians and vegans.
👎 The Lowlights (Inconsistent Quality)
However, several guests reported highly unsatisfactory experiences with other dishes and aspects of their meal:
- Poorly prepared sides and mains: Complaints include "acid" beans (possibly from a can), "dry and uneatable" chicken (potentially frozen and overcooked), and pastĂtsio with "overcooked pasta" and "worrying gelatinous cream" that tasted old.
- Questionable seafood preparation (beyond fresh fish): Some found the shrimps "terrible," the tarama tasted like a "supermarket" version rather than fresh fish, and Symi shrimps were described as "fried and damped in oil with a taste of sugar," raising doubts about their freshness.
- Salad quality: One review noted a "poor" salad with "almost no feta."
- Service issues: Guests were reportedly charged for dishes they did not eat due to poor quality, and the overall "cooking" was described as "slow."
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Hospitality & Additional Offerings
The staff at Althemenis receive consistent praise for their warmth and kindness. Many describe it as a "wonderful family restaurant" with "fantastically kind people."
Beyond the restaurant, Althemenis also offers small, very clean, and cozy apartments located above the restaurant, boasting an unforgettable sea view from the balcony. This makes it an attractive option for those looking for a peaceful stay combined with convenient dining, with some guests enjoying meals from breakfast through dinner during their stay.
✨ Overall Recommendation
Althemenis Fish Restaurant appears to be a place with significant variability in dining experiences. If you are specifically looking for freshly prepared fish in a beautiful seaside setting, and appreciate warm, family-run hospitality, it could be an excellent choice. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported inconsistencies in the quality of non-fish dishes and certain service aspects, particularly if venturing beyond the seafood specialties.
It is recommended to focus on their fish offerings to maximize the chances of a positive culinary experience at this otherwise charming Rhodes establishment.

Fish was exceptionally good! The view was very beautiful and the breeze is nice. The perfect lunch venue in the area
We had great experience with this restaurant. Such a nice atmosphere, stunning view and really delicious food. We had daily menu, fish was fresh and well made. They offer also food for vegetarians and vegans!! I highly recommend to have lunch or dinner, probably one of the best food in Rhodos.
This felt like an episode of the show "kitchen's nightmare". The beans were so acid they felt like they could give you food poisoning, the waitress said it was probably from the tomato sauce. It must have come from a can as well as the beans. We didn't eat them but were still charged for it. The chicken was so dry it was uneatable without sauce (also industrial) it was probably frozen and then too much cooked. The tarama didn't taste like fish at all, it felt like the one you can buy at any supermarket. The symi shrimps were a little bit fried and damped in oil with a taste of sugar, the waitress said they were "fresh from the sea" but we wonder if for them that means frozen after they were bought fresh and then defrosted and panned. My boyfriend had a pastĂtsio with overcooked pasta and worrying gelatinous cream that tasted like it was made several days ago, he also didn't eat it. We had to pay for all of ot still, it was 40 euros for the worst restaurant of our life. For the same price you can eat delicious fresh food in restaurants in Rodos. The "cooking" was also slow. The place itself is nice but my advice is to not go there unless they have a new chef.
Unfortunately I can not recommend this restaurant. The only thing that tasted here was beer. Shrimps were terrible. I did not eat everyone. Dorada was not the worst. The salad is also poor. There was almost no feta at all.
