Located at Leof. Kallitheas 68, Faliraki 851 00, Greece, the Aquarium of Faliraki, also known as AquaWorld, is far more than a typical point of interest. This establishment stands out as a unique destination dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of local marine life, earning consistent high praise from visitors for its impactful work and the genuine passion of its owner.

🌊 A Unique Rescue and Rehabilitation Center

AquaWorld operates primarily as a rescue center for a wide variety of sea creatures found in the local Mediterranean waters. Visitors consistently highlight the "hospital tank," where sick or injured animals are nurtured back to health before being released back into the sea. This includes remarkable success stories, such as a sea turtle treated for numerous fishing hooks. The aquarium showcases a good range of fish and other marine items, all originating from the local area, offering insightful glimpses into the region's aquatic biodiversity.

💖 The Dedicated and Compassionate Owner

One of the most frequently praised aspects of AquaWorld is its owner. Described as a "really nice guy," a "great man," and "kind and compassionate," he is central to the aquarium's noble mission. Visitors appreciate that he takes the time to personally explain the origins of the animals, their conditions, and the rehabilitation process. His commitment extends beyond marine life, as he also provides a safe haven for stray cats and kittens, caring for them out of the goodness of his heart. Many visitors encourage supporting his ongoing efforts by donating food or toys for the cats.

Visitor Information & Experience

  • Entry Fee: The cost is remarkably affordable, typically 5 euro for adults and 3 euro for kids, widely considered a "bargain" and "well worth the entry fee" given the valuable work supported.
  • Duration: While it may be a "small" establishment, visitors note that it is "worth it" and "won't take long," making it an ideal stop for an hour or so.
  • For Kids: Children are particularly catered to, enjoying the various tanks and receiving a little gift upon exit, adding to their memorable experience.
  • Impact: By visiting, guests directly contribute to the owner's "wonderful work" of animal rescue and care.

The Aquarium of Faliraki (AquaWorld) offers a heartwarming and educational experience. It is not merely an attraction; it is a testament to one man's profound dedication to animal welfare, encompassing both marine and terrestrial creatures. Happy we got a chance to visit this aquarium. It’s not that big but the guy does his best , rehabilitates so many fish and marine life . There was quite a bad smell I thought throughout the aquarium but the guy was so friendly and knowledgeable I didn’t care . And he gave us a nice shell souvenir!

Lovely aquarium with a small collection of fish but very much worth a visit since the owner rescues all the fish and releases them back into the wild after he nurses them back to health again. He also cares for a lot of sweet rescue cats that hang around the aquarium which are all very friendly and in very good health thanks to his excellent care. Hats off to the owner for his hard work and love for the animals, it was a joy to talk to him about his rescue work! You could really tell how passionate he is about helping the animals and he was always there to answer questions about the various fish and other things like crystals from the local mountains that are also on display and for sale.
