Nestled on the picturesque island of Rhodes, Archangelos Cave is a truly stunning natural attraction that consistently earns rave reviews from visitors. Located at Archangelos 851 02, Greece, this spot is much more than just a cave; it's a captivating blend of a secluded pebble beach, crystal-clear waters, and intriguing rock formations, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking a unique coastal experience.

Getting There 🗺️

Archangelos Cave, also known for its beautiful adjacent beach, offers several access routes, each with its own charm:

  1. By Land via Grande Blue Restaurant: Many visitors recommend parking at the Grande Blue restaurant, from where steep stairs lead directly down to the beach. Be prepared for the descent and ascent, and consider this option if you prefer a direct land route.
  2. By Trail from the Village: A scenic trail from the small harbor at the end of Archangelos village provides another walking access point.
  3. By Boat from Stegna Beach: For those seeking a maritime approach, you can rent a boat or pedal boat from nearby Stegna Beach and navigate your way to the caves.
  4. Swimming from the Bay: Adventurous visitors can swim from the main bay to the caves, often passing under a beautiful natural arch. This method is particularly recommended for accessing the cave interiors.

Important Note on Access: Regardless of your chosen route, be aware that the terrain can be challenging. Many reviews highlight sharp rocks, both on land and underwater, and even hot rocks if walking on them. Bringing water shoes is highly recommended to ensure comfort and safety.

What Awaits You Inside and Out 🌊

Once you arrive, the natural beauty of Archangelos Cave truly unfolds. The area features a beautiful pebble or stone beach, offering a serene spot to relax. The water here is consistently described as crystal clear, providing exceptional visibility.

Caves and Snorkeling Paradise 🐠

The main allure lies in the caves themselves:

  • The first cave is swimmable, allowing for a unique aquatic exploration.
  • Further in, you'll discover a second, smaller cave that contains its own pebble beach inside, a remarkable hidden gem.

The underwater world around Archangelos Cave is vibrant and teeming with marine life, making it an ideal destination for snorkeling enthusiasts. Reviewers consistently praise the "most beautiful water" and the excellent conditions for observing fish and other aquatic creatures. The light contrasts inside the caves are also noted as being "amazing," adding to the visual spectacle.

For convenience, sunbeds are available on the beach for a small fee, typically around €6.

Insider Tips for Your Visit ⚠️

  • Timing is Key: To avoid the crowds, especially those arriving by cruise ship later in the day, it is highly recommended to go early in the morning. You'll enjoy a more tranquil and personal experience.
  • Gear Up: As mentioned, water shoes are essential due to sharp and potentially hot rocks. Don't forget your snorkel to fully appreciate the abundant marine life and the clear underwater visibility.
  • Be Mindful: Pay attention to underwater rocks and sharp surfaces, especially if swimming or exploring the cave interiors.

Archangelos Cave is undoubtedly a memorable destination on Rhodes, offering a blend of adventure, relaxation, and breathtaking natural beauty. Prepare adequately, and you're set for an unforgettable experience.

There are stairs all the way down, and you will find a nice pebble beach with beautiful views. There is a lot of marine life to see under the water so make sure to bring a snorkel. The cave is accessible by land or trough the water (i would recommend swimming to the cave ) the rocks are super sharp and hot. Mind also the underwater rocks.

Beautiful caves, you can swim through the 1st one. The 2nd one is a small cave with pebble beach inside. To reach the caves drive to restaurant and follow the path on the left side. Alternatively you can swim from the bay to the caves under a beautiful natural arch. Visibility inside the caves is great and the light contrasts are amazing.

Wonderful rocky beach with sunbeds available for small fee (€6 or so). We visited this place around 11 am in late April and initially it was empty. Perfect spot for snorkling with rock caves rather easily accessible.

A beautiful place, definitely worth visiting! I recommend going early in the morning to avoid the crowds, as later in the afternoon, cruise ships stop here. You can get here either from Stegna beach by renting a boat or a pedal boat, or by taking a trail from the small harbor at the end of the village. There's also an option to park your car at the Grande Blue restaurant, from where steep stairs lead down to the beach. It's definitely worth bringing water shoes, there are sharp rocks.

Small beautiful stone beach near Archangelos, i recommend to go there through Blue Lagoon bar and take the stairs down, stay on the main beach or go the left side through the arch which will take you to the most beautiful water i have seen. Crystal clear water, perfect for snorkeling.
