Aussichtspunkt versunkene Kirche

FEATURES
The Aussichtspunkt versunkene Kirche, or "Sunken Church Viewpoint," offers a unique and somewhat adventurous experience on the beautiful island of Rhodes. More than just a church, this destination centers around a picturesque dam lake that hides a historical secret, along with offering a range of engaging activities.
Getting There: An Adventure in Itself 🗺️
Reaching this hidden gem requires a bit of planning, especially regarding your mode of transport. Be aware that the journey involves dirt roads, which can be challenging for standard vehicles.

- It's generally advised not to attempt the dirt roads with a normal car due to the terrain.
The Enigmatic Sunken Church ⛪
The "sunken church" is the namesake attraction, but its visibility is seasonal and its appeal is subjective.
- The church is periodically submerged under water and typically only appears in the summer months when the reservoir's water levels are low. This makes timing your visit crucial if you specifically want to see the church.
- Once visible, reaching the church involves a walk of approximately 40 minutes one way.
- Some visitors have described the church as a "typical abandoned church" and "not particularly photogenic," suggesting it might not be the grand focal point some expect. Others found it "not really special."
The Beautiful Lake and Activities 🏞️
Beyond the elusive church, the dam lake itself is a significant draw, offering a serene environment and various recreational opportunities, managed by friendly local owners.
- The lake is described as "beautiful" and "nice," providing a great setting for relaxation and activity.
- You can embark on a long walk around the lake, though be prepared for a substantial commitment as it can take "at least 4 hours."
- For those seeking more active pursuits, the area offers affordable activities, including:
- Canoeing (around 7.50 euros)
- Pedal boat riding (around 8 euros)
- Ziplining
- And "much more."
- Visitors have also appreciated the "good little things to eat" available, as well as the presence of "cute animal residents," adding to the charming atmosphere.

Driving with the beach buggy it was an adventure but would not go there with a normal car as there are only dirt roads
nice lake, you can walk around but it will take at least 4 hours. To get to the church, which is periodically submerged under water, it takes about 40 minutes one way. The church is a typical abandoned church, not particularly photogenic as I thought.
Beautiful lake with incredibly nice owners. At first you think you went down for nothing. But if you stop and walk down you come to a great dam lake with great, very cheap activities. Canoeing for 7.50 euros, pedal boat riding for 8 euros, zipline and much more. Good little things to eat and cute animal residents. The church sinks every time the reservoir is completely filled and only appears in the summer months. You should watch it and then drive home via the west coast
Sometimes there is little water, then it can be reached easily. Church not really special
