MEALS
Hermes Greek Grill House, located in the charming Ibrahim Pasha Mosque Square on Sofokleous 7 in Rodos, Rhodes Island, Greece, stands out as a noteworthy Greek restaurant and establishment. Based on recent patron experiences, it offers a compelling blend of traditional Greek fare, friendly service, and excellent value, making it a popular choice for both locals and visitors.
📍 Location & Atmosphere
One of the key advantages highlighted by reviewers is the restaurant's location. It's situated just a few minutes away from the more overcrowded streets of Rhodes Old Town, offering a more tranquil and peaceful dining experience. This provides a pleasant escape for those looking to enjoy a meal without the hustle and bustle of tourist-heavy areas.
🍽️ Culinary Delights & Portions
The food at Hermes Greek Grill House receives largely positive feedback, particularly for its authenticity, freshness, and generous portion sizes.
Main Dishes & Quality:
- Greek Salad: Patrons consistently praise the Greek salad for its freshness, vibrant flavors, and quality ingredients, with one reviewer specifically noting "juicy and mild" onions and calling it "an absolutely beautiful salad."
- Gyros (Pork & Chicken): Both pork and chicken gyros are highly recommended. They are described as having "huge portions" and a "generous amount of meat." The meat is noted for being "cooked perfectly" and "clean and good" (especially the chicken, which was all breast meat). One reviewer found a mixed gyros platter for two, along with drinks, to be an exceptional bargain.
- Pork Cutlet: While generally positive, one reviewer found their pork cutlet to be "just... OK," not "tenderly delicious," suggesting that while fresh and warm, some dishes might not always meet exceptionally high expectations.
- Other Dishes: A chicken dish and burger were also mentioned as amazing, accompanied by "very fresh" potatoes.
A recurring theme across reviews is the very large portion sizes, with some patrons finding it difficult to finish their meals. This certainly adds to the value proposition of the restaurant.
🤝 Service & Hospitality
The service at Hermes Greek Grill House consistently garners high praise. Staff are described as "very friendly," "accommodating," "seamless," "relaxed," and "kind." They are noted for being forthcoming, answering questions despite being busy, and offering recommendations. This welcoming and efficient service greatly contributes to a pleasant dining experience.
💰 Value & Payment
The pricing is a significant highlight, frequently described as "very reasonable," "super good," and a "bargain." Examples include a shared mixed gyros platter and two Fantas for €13.90, and a chicken dish, burger, salad, and a beer for €23, including complimentary water with ice. The restaurant also conveniently accepts card and contactless payments, which is a plus for international travelers.
📝 Points for Consideration
- High Expectations: One reviewer, possibly influenced by the overwhelmingly positive reviews, felt their expectations were set "too high," leading to a "just OK" experience with a specific dish. This suggests that while generally excellent, individual experiences may vary slightly.
- Bathroom Cleanliness: A minor point raised by one reviewer was a recommendation for the restaurant to "check upon the bathroom cleanliness."
✨ Overall Recommendation
Hermes Greek Grill House comes highly recommended for anyone visiting Rhodes Island. Its combination of a peaceful location away from the main crowds, delicious and generously portioned Greek food, exceptional value, and consistently friendly service makes it a standout dining destination. Many reviewers express a strong desire to return, solidifying its reputation as a must-visit spot for authentic Greek cuisine.
I visited this place on my last visit to Rhodes and was pleasantly surprissed. Hermes serves an excellent mixed grill for a decent price. And the service is quick and professional. For €20 you can have a great meal with a large beer included.
Located a few minutes away from the overcrowded streets I had nice and peaceful late lunch there as my last meal of my holiday.I had Greek salad and Pork and Chicken Gyros. Both came in huge portions, salad was very fresh, I never ate onions that were so juicy and mild.., everything was fresh and full of flavour, an absolutely beautiful salad. Gyros was cooked perfectly and had very generous amount of meat. The service was seamless, relaxed and friendly. The price was very reasonable. If I had more time in Rodos town this place would be my go-to. Thanks for the lovely meal. I will come back.
Okie I will be a bit more critical of this restaurant due to the high reviews of this place, I did feel that I placed my expectations too high.Tbe staff were very friendly and forthcoming for sure. They answer every question despite them busy serving and give recommendationsThe food however was just... OK. It was serve warm, freshly made, but my pork cutlet wasn't exactly say tenderly delicious. The portion is BIG though and I couldn't finish (perhaps because I am asian). Perhaps I need to try different dishes but yup. You can refer to the menu in picture for the latest price updates.
Average food. Service was first class's but would have loved a receipt at the end to check rather than just given a price although 15 euros for 3 fantas, 1 beer and 2 gyros was extremely reasonable. This is an old school restaurant and it shows, tucked away in a back street. I don't think our lengthy search for this restaurant was worth the time, but we wanted to see what the hype was about. Don't get me wrong, what we had was tasty, but I have definitely had better.
We had a Greek salad, and pita gyros of either pork or chicken. The salad was fresh and tasty. The pitas were made with clean and good meat (chicken was all breast!), which I really enjoyed. Service was also nice, the owner is very friendly. Also prices were super good.
