Nestled in Monolithos on Greece's beautiful Rhodes Island, Limeri Traditional Guesthouse & Wine Bar presents itself as a multifaceted destination offering a blend of lodging, dining, and a cozy bar atmosphere. Based on recent guest experiences, it shines brightly in its culinary offerings and warm hospitality, though some aspects of its guesthouse services warrant careful consideration.
A Culinary Gem in Monolithos 🍷
The restaurant at Limeri consistently receives high praise for its authentic traditional Greek cuisine. Guests frequently rave about the deliciousness of their dishes:
- Exquisite Lamb and Pork: Several reviewers highlighted the lamb and pork as standout choices, noting their absolutely delicious preparation.
- Fresh Greek Salad: The fresh Greek salad is also a popular and highly recommended accompaniment.
- Homemade Wine: A particular highlight is the homemade wine, described as "so tasty" that guests often purchase bottles to take home.
- Varied Menu: Beyond these, the menu features a range of "interesting Greek dishes," catering to diverse tastes, alongside a rich and tasty breakfast for guesthouse guests.
While the overall food quality is excellent, one guest noted a minor consistency issue with dishes like rooster and stifado having a "lot of almost raw tomato sauce" that occasionally overshadowed the meat's flavor. Despite this, the overwhelming sentiment leans towards a highly satisfying dining experience.
Warm Hospitality and Cozy Atmosphere 🤗
Limeri is celebrated for its warm hospitality and excellent service. Guests often describe the hosts as "very hospitable and kind," contributing to a "cozy atmosphere." One reviewer specifically commended Eugenia, a "delightful young woman" who provided excellent service, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.
Accommodation: Rustic Charm with Important Considerations 🛏️
As a guesthouse, Limeri offers a quiet and cozy stay. The rooms are described as "stylishly furnished" and equipped with "perfectly functioning air conditioning and a fireplace," suggesting a comfortable environment. However, prospective guests should be aware of a significant discrepancy in accommodation experiences:
- Check-in Issues: One highly critical review detailed a frustrating check-in experience, where no staff were present at the stated 15:00 check-in time, leading to a delay of over an hour and requiring communication via Google Translate with a housekeeper to contact the owner.
- Restaurant Availability for Guests: In a particularly disappointing turn for one guest, the restaurant, despite being a major draw, was reported as "closed" to them during their stay, directly contradicting the positive dining reviews.
- In-Room Amenities and Charges: Unlike typical hotel setups, in-room coffee and tea were reportedly charged at 2 Euros, with no kettle provided. The fridge was stocked with items for sale, reminiscent of an older "honor bar mindset," which some guests might find outdated or inconvenient.
- Views: While some guests mention "stunning views" from the guesthouse's "cozy spot," one reviewer found the view from their specific room "not so spectacular," suggesting potential variability.
Location and Accessibility 🏞️🚗
Located in a remote part of Rhodes Island, Limeri offers a serene setting with "amazing views and many beautiful places to visit" in the surroundings. This quiet environment is ideal for those seeking a tranquil escape. However, it is crucial to note that a car is necessary for exploring the island and reaching the beach, which is approximately 6 km away. The guesthouse features "very good outside seating," perfect for enjoying the local ambiance.
Overall Recommendation
Limeri Traditional Guesthouse & Wine Bar is primarily a highly recommended destination for those seeking an authentic Greek culinary experience in a cozy, hospitable setting. The food, particularly the lamb, pork, and homemade wine, consistently receives rave reviews. For guests considering an overnight stay, it's vital to factor in the guesthouse's more traditional approach to services and amenities, such as potential check-in communication nuances and in-room charges. Having a car is essential for exploring the remote yet beautiful surroundings. If you prioritize delicious traditional food and warm service, Limeri is certainly worth a visit, especially for its renowned restaurant.
We visited a wonderful restaurant with traditional Greek cuisine, and everything was perfect! We tried lamb, pork, and a fresh Greek salad — everything was absolutely delicious. The homemade wine was so tasty that we couldn’t resist buying a bottle to take home. The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was excellent — we were served by Eugenia, a delightful young woman. We will definitely come back again and highly recommend this place to everyone!
They have a very good outside seating, I stopped there for a main meal, twice. The food was good, the service was excellent. For some reason both times the main dish was with a lot of almost raw tomato sauce. While for the rooster this may be was an interesting option, large amounts of the very same sauce for stifado were hiding the taste of the meat for me.
Limeri in Monolithos offers authentic Greek cuisine with fresh, local ingredients and warm hospitality. Don’t miss their flavorful lamb and meze. A cozy spot with stunning views—highly recommended!
Very disappointing. Check in time was 1500, but no one showed at all. Eventually, at around 1630, i communicated with the housekeeper via google translate that I wanted to check in and she called the owner.I came here to treat myself to one of the wonderful meals all the reviewers rave about, but was told by the housekeeper that the restaurant was closed. Here's a photo of the view from my room. Not so spectacular, right? Also, even in-room coffee and tea was for a 2Euro charge and there wasn't even a kettle to make tea in.Fridge was stocked with items for sale. Very 1970s honor bar mindset that I thought went away with the Soviet Union.Waste of money!
A great place for a quiet stay in Rhode in a small, cozy family-run hotel. Very hospitable and kind hosts. The rooms are stylishly furnished with perfectly functioning air conditioning and a fireplace. Rich and tasty breakfast, interesting Greek dishes at dinner in the hotel restaurant. Since the hotel is located in a remote part of the island, it is necessary to have a car to travel around the island and to the beach, which is approximately 6 km away. Surroundings of the hotel with amazing views and many beautiful places to visit.
