This establishment functions as a serene park, offering a welcome respite from the bustling city. It is often described by visitors as a "small oasis" and a charming spot to unwind and appreciate the surroundings.

What Visitors Appreciate 👍

  1. A Relaxing Respite:

Many reviewers highlight the park as a shady and breezy spot, particularly effective for cooling down on warm days. Its strategic location on a main street ensures easy access for those looking to sit down and relax.

  2. Scenic Views & Atmosphere:

The park offers pleasant views overlooking the sea and marina, contributing to a calm and inviting atmosphere. It's frequently recommended as an ideal place to enjoy a coffee in hand, allowing visitors to soak in the tranquil setting.

  3. Illuminated Monument:

The monument dedicated to Cleobulus within the park is a focal point, especially noted for its aesthetic appeal at night when it is beautifully illuminated.

Points to Consider 🤔

While the overall feedback for the park is positive, some past observations offer additional context:

  • Size:

It's important to recognize that this is a modest-sized park, designed more for brief moments of relaxation rather than extensive walks or recreational activities.

  • Historical Concern (Past Issue):

One older review, dating back 6 years, mentioned an issue with homeless people and an unpleasant smell near some benches behind the monument. While conditions can change over time, this is an observation from a past visitor regarding cleanliness and comfort in specific areas.

About Cleobulus of Lindos: Honoring an Ancient Sage 🏛️

The park is proudly named after Cleobulus of Lindos (Κλεόβοΰλος), a significant historical figure who lived in the 6th century BC. He was an ancient philosopher, poet, and ruler (tyrant) of the Rhodian city of Lindos. Renowned as one of the "Seven Sages of Antiquity," Cleobulus made substantial contributions to his city and left a legacy of profound wisdom.

Historically, Cleobulus is credited with renovating the distinguished temple of Athena and constructing an essential water supply system in Lindos that remained in use until the Middle Ages. He was also a strong advocate for the education of women, influenced by his own daughter, the poetess Kleobulina.

Numerous insightful sayings are attributed to Cleobulus, reflecting his philosophical depth. These include:

  1. "It is best to observe moderation."
  2. "You need to listen, but not eavesdrop."
  3. "Don’t do anything with violence."
  4. "Don’t scold or caress your wife in front of others: the first is indecent, and the second can make others furious."
  5. "Do not despise the inferior."
  6. "Good people are easy to deceive."

Beyond his wisdom, Cleobulus was also an author of various poems, songs, charades, and riddles.

Overall Impression ✨

Πάρκο Κλεόβουλος ο Λίνδιος stands as a peaceful and historically significant spot in Rhodes. It is an excellent choice for those seeking a brief moment of tranquility, a convenient place to enjoy a coffee with a view of the sea, or simply to appreciate a monument dedicated to a prominent figure from ancient Greek history. Despite its modest size, its central location and the calming atmosphere make it a worthwhile point of interest for both locals and visitors.

I don't know why they show the Church of the Annunciation, maybe because it's opposite the park. As a place it's not big, it's a small park to rest with a coffee in hand. A little oasis. Cleobolus of Rhodes was an ancient philosopher, poet and tyrant. He was one of the Seven Sages of Antiquity. It is very good that they honor our ancestors, instead of decorating us with statues of politicians....

A nice park, but very crowded with homeless people. We tried to sit on a bench behind the monument, but the smell drove us away...Monument to Cleobulus (Greek: Κλεόβοΰλος, about 540-460 BC) - in the 6th century BC. e. one of the "seven Greek sages", the son of Evagoras, was the ruler (tyrant) of the Rhodian city of Lindos on Rhodes. In the city he renovated the famous temple of Athena and built a water supply system that supplied the city with water until the Middle Ages. He advocated the training and education of women, among other things, because of his children he only had a daughter, the poetess Kleobulina. The modern monument-statue is located in the village of Lindos. The following sayings are attributed to him: “It is best to observe moderation,” “You need to listen, but not eavesdrop,” “Don’t do anything with violence,” “Don’t scold or caress your wife in front of others: the first is indecent, and the second can make others furious.” ", "Do not despise the inferior", "Good people are easy to deceive" and many others like that. Author of numerous poems, songs, charades and riddles, including those that have come down to us.
