Regrettably, the most recent visitor experiences paint a somber picture. As of reviews from the past year, the "Sound & Light" park is reported to be closed indefinitely. Visitors describe a disheartening scene: a lack of living plants, an abundance of garbage, and the complete absence of previously planned amenities like shops and a children's playground. What was once envisioned as a beautiful open-air space for relaxation and cultural immersion now stands largely abandoned and neglected.

A History of Unfulfilled Promises 🚧

Around three to four years ago, there were optimistic reports of significant restoration efforts underway. Plans included extensive garden work, electrical installations for the stage, and the development of a bar/cafe and a children's play area on the upper levels. Some visitors at the time found beauty in the newly arranged plants, hoping for a grand re-opening. However, these aspirations appear to have been dashed. Subsequent reviews indicate that despite initial cleaning or restoration attempts, the site was left on "hazard," falling back into a state of disrepair. The hope that it would once again become a popular attraction with music and shows has unfortunately not materialized, leaving many disappointed by what they perceive as the "selfishness of authorities" in neglecting such a potentially valuable public space.

Based on recent feedback, those planning to visit "Sound & Light" should be aware that it is currently not operational as a show venue or a well-maintained park. Expect a closed-off area that reflects neglect rather than a point of interest for walking, relaxing, or cultural events. While its historical significance remains, its current state is a stark contrast to its original purpose and the hopeful restoration efforts of a few years ago. It serves as a melancholic reminder of a potentially magnificent attraction that has fallen by the wayside.

I was here last year, when it was open for a few days and a gardener was cleaning all the grass. It's so shame that such a open air beautiful place is left in such a dreadful condition only bcs of the selfishness of authorities. A lot of stuff was stated to be done and after left on hazard. This could be a great place for people to take a walk and relax. Bcs I doubt that this will ever be the hit that was once upon a time with music and so long....

After all the years I've been coming to Rhodes Town, I've somehow over looked this gem. The garden is undergoing restoration at the time of writing this in September 2020. The plants are nicely arranged and planted. Where the stage is, there is currently electrical work going on, and on the upper levels, building work has started on a bar / cafe and children's play area. I'm excited to see the end result. It's worth paying a visit now, just for the plants and flowers.

This park was closed a long time ago! There are no living plants whatsoever! Only garbage! The shops and the playground are also not there anymore. Very disappointing...

"Sound and Light" is a theater and was created during the Italian occupation (also this), inside the garden of the north side of the Grand Master's Palace. It presents an audio performance on the theme of the Knights and the last Ottoman siege of 1522. The theater is open-air, with a capacity of 300 seats and with a natural setting of the recently restored northern bastion of the Palace and the Tower of Pagnac. Suitable for hosting cultural events during the summer.
