Stavlos

Located at Nikiforou Mandilara 15, Rodos 851 00, Greece, Stavlos is a prominent barbecue restaurant and a point of interest for food lovers on Rhodes Island. This establishment aims to deliver authentic Greek flavors, particularly focusing on grilled meats.
The Food Experience 🥩🥗
Stavlos consistently receives high marks for its delicious cuisine. Reviewers frequently praise the quality of the meat, with mentions of superb kebap plates and succulent lamb ribs. Diners also enjoyed fresh salads and the addition of yummy halloumi, complementing the rich barbecue offerings. One satisfied customer even declared the meat, salads, and dessert menu "so amazing" that they returned multiple times during their stay.
However, there's a slight divergence regarding portion sizes. While one reviewer highlighted "soo much" food, another found their "tilihto" (a type of wrap or sandwich) to be "quite small" and noted that it came without fries, which impacted their overall perception of value.
Value for Money: A Mixed Verdict 🤔
This is perhaps the most debated aspect of Stavlos, creating a notable contrast among diner experiences.
- Some patrons lauded Stavlos for offering "great value for money," finding the generous portions and delicious food to be well worth the price.
- Conversely, one reviewer described their meal as "by far the most expensive one" on the island, feeling that the cost of their modest order (a tilihto, fries, tzatziki, drinks) was disproportionate for what they perceived as a "simple tavern, not a restaurant." This perspective underscores that expectations and specific orders can significantly influence the perception of value.
It's important for prospective diners to consider this potential discrepancy in pricing perception, especially if ordering smaller items or comparing it to more casual taverns.
Service & Atmosphere 🗣️😌
The service at Stavlos is generally described as "great" and "super friendly," with staff being welcoming and attentive. A notable highlight is the consistent provision of a complimentary dessert from the house, which adds a delightful touch to the dining experience.
Being "really nearby the center," Stavlos offers a convenient location. The atmosphere is generally considered "ok," and while it might be "a little quiet" if dining early, it tends to get "busier" later in the evening, around 9:30 PM, creating a more lively ambiance. One reviewer did mention it was "hard to catch a server's attention" when the restaurant was particularly busy, which is understandable given its popularity.
Final Thoughts ✨
Stavlos stands out as a strong contender for delicious barbecue and traditional Greek dishes in Rhodes Town. While the food quality, especially the grilled meats and salads, receives consistent praise, the value for money can be subjective. Diners should be mindful of what they order and consider that some items might be priced differently than anticipated for a traditional tavern setting. Overall, with its friendly staff and the bonus of a free dessert, Stavlos is highly recommended for those seeking a flavorful Greek barbecue experience, particularly during peak hours when the atmosphere becomes more vibrant.
It was our first meal on the island and by far the most expensive one! We were two people and we ordered one “tilihto”, one portion of French fries, one tzatziki, one bottle of retsina, one Pepsi and one bottle of water and we paid 15€ each or 30€ in total. How is this even possible?? The sandwiches come without fries and they are quite small. The food was nice and delicious but not something that could justify the price. And it is a simple tavern, not a restaurant.
The food here is great! And soo much of it as well. It was very windy so we sat inside which was a little quiet and got busier as we were leaving (about 9.30pm) so maybe we were just eating earlier hence the lower atmosphere score. Service was great and you get a free dessert! Would 100% recommend and go back, great value for money.
The food was great but it was hard to catch a server's attention to order, though I do understand it's because it's always quite busy. Good to come here for delicious barbecue, fresh salad and yummy halloumi
Best place in Rhodes. We visited multiple times during our 1 week stay on the island. The meat, salads, dessert… the whole menu was so amazing, that we had to come back time after time to try as much as we could. The staff is super friendly and the place is extremely welcoming! We’ll be back!
Environment is ok. It is really nearby the center.Service was all good and there was nothing wrong. And it was really nice to be served a dessert from the house for free.I assume all grills are good. We have tried kebap plate and lamb ribs and both were si delicious.
