Τα Πεταλάδικα Ta Petaladika

Located on Menekleous 2, Rodos 851 00, Τα Πεταλάδικα (Ta Petaladika) is a restaurant in Rhodes Island, Greece, often highlighted as a seafood destination. Based on recent customer feedback, the dining experience here appears to be highly polarized, with strong positive notes on certain dishes contrasting sharply with significant concerns regarding service and pricing.
👍 The Highs
Fresh and Well-Prepared Seafood:
Some patrons praised the quality and preparation of specific fish dishes. Highlights include seabass carpaccio, stuffed calamari, mini shrimps, and mussels in roquefort sauce, all described as "really good." The sea bass, when enjoyed, was noted for its freshness and taste. Fried calamari and scallops were also positively mentioned by one reviewer.
Attentive Moments:
While inconsistent, some guests reported "friendly and helpful" staff and "great service." One particular positive note was the table-side filleting of fish.
Rhodes Bread:
The local Rhodos bread received a mention for being enjoyable, although there were issues with it not being warmed.
👎 The Lows
Inconsistent and Poor Service:
A recurring theme in negative reviews is the slow and unwelcoming service. Guests reported long waits for tables, menus, and placing orders, forgotten dishes, and multiple requests needed to receive the check. One reviewer described a waitress as having a "bad manner," being "unwelcoming," and using a "fake smile," suggesting this might be a common issue.
Disappointing Food Quality for Certain Dishes:
The grilled octopus was a significant point of contention, described as "terrible," "the worst ever," and "not edible" by multiple reviewers. Other criticisms included mediocre rice and meatballs, and scallops with an excessive amount of vinegar.
Exorbitant Pricing & Tourist Trap Concerns:
A major red flag raised was the pricing, particularly for fresh fish selected from the fishbar. One highly critical review highlighted a shocking price of 70 euro/kilo for dorado, labeling the restaurant a "tourist trap" and the pricing "criminal" compared to standard prices in other countries. This suggests a lack of transparency and potentially exploitative pricing practices.
Small Portions:
One review noted that the dishes served were "quite small," adding to the disappointment alongside other issues.
Watered House Wine:
The house white wine was criticized for being "pretty bad" and "extremely watery," leading one customer to opt for a bottled wine instead.
Menu Availability:
Some patrons experienced situations where many items on the menu were "sold out," leaving limited choices.
⭐ Key Takeaways
Τα Πεταλάδικα presents a mixed bag. While it has the potential to serve delicious, fresh seafood, the experience is often overshadowed by significant issues with service, inconsistent food quality (especially the grilled octopus), and what many perceive as predatory pricing, particularly for fresh fish. The establishment's reputation for calamari is mentioned, but ironically, staff sometimes fail to highlight it.
Recommendation: Based on the strong negative feedback regarding service and pricing (especially for fresh fish), many reviewers advise against dining here, suggesting that visitors explore other options in Rhodes for a more consistently positive and fair dining experience.
Our host recommended this restaurant as a good fish place, but we were let down by the food and service. Despite being among the first guests, it took a long time to get a table, menus, and place our order. The grilled octopus was terrible, and they even forgot to bring one of our dishes. We had to request the check multiple times. In addition to the disappointments with the food and service, the dishes served were quite small. The only aspects we truly enjoyed were the Rhodos bread and sea bass. Unfortunately, these were the only highlights in an otherwise underwhelming dining experience at the restaurant. Considering all this, I don't recommend this restaurant; the one next to it is slightly better.
Located in a less busy street. Got there by recommendation from locals. The waitress either did not like something about us or she was having bad time. She was spending effort not to be rude with a fake smile.I checked the reviews later and obviously that is a stereotype.. bad manner, unwelcoming.. bad experience..Rice and meatballs dish was so so, I can cook a better rice dish at home.. scallops were good but there was too much vinegar in the sauce..grilled octopus was the worst ever I had in my life, not edible.. house wine was mediocre but refreshing..and how difficult can it be to warm the bread.. I asked for it and they looked at me with that strange grin , like this has never been done before..The place is known for it’s calamari but the waitress did not even mention about it.as a verdict did not like the food and unwelcoming rude manner of the waitress. Just don’t go there, go somewhere else for at least a normal experience..
We loved this restaurant! The fish was fresh and extremely well prepared! We had seabass carpaccio, stuffed calamari, mini shrimps and mussels in roquefort sauce. Everything was really good. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We ordered house white wine but when we tried we noticed that it was pretty bad (extremely watery) so we ordered a bottle instead. I would try not to water the house wines too much if I was the owner of this restaurant because the customer can spot when a wine had water added to it! The rest was perfect as I said before!
Everything started fine. They brought the menu but when we tried to order everything seemed to be sold out, they only had some fish left at their fishbar, where we chose a dorado filet. We had a good night and enjoyed the fish, they even made sure to filet it at the table.. but then the bill came. What an unpleasant surprise. 70 euro/kilo for dorado… we come from Belgium (expensive country) where dorado costs a maximum of 12/kilo…. This is a tourist trap and a terrible way to treat people. I am upset and confused and do not understand why or how you can do this to people. Do I mind spending a bit more on good food? Not at all, but this is criminal.Do not go here!
Really liked the place. Was seated in a spot that everybody passed all the time, that felt a little disturbing, but great food and service! Had the scallops and fried calamari.
