Ταβέρνα Πανόραμα

Located in the scenic area of Archangelos on Rhodes Island, Ταβέρνα Πανόραμα offers breathtaking views that are undoubtedly a major draw. However, recent visitor experiences paint a consistently negative picture regarding its current operations, service, and offerings. Despite the beautiful panorama, potential visitors should be aware of significant issues before planning a stop here.
Current Status & Limited Offerings ⚠️
According to multiple recent reviews, Ταβέρνα Πανόραμα is no longer operating as a full-service restaurant. Instead, it offers only a limited selection of drinks. Visitors expecting a meal or a traditional taverna experience will be disappointed. The establishment seems to have shifted its focus, providing minimal amenities to those visiting the nearby attractions.
Unacceptable Customer Service 😠
The most alarming and consistent complaint across numerous reviews centers around the extremely rude and unwelcoming demeanor of the staff, particularly an elderly man often described as the owner or main counter person. Instances reported by visitors include:
- Insults and Shouting: Patrons have been subjected to unprovoked insults and shouting, even when simply attempting to purchase water or ice cream.
- Grumpy and Unhelpful: Staff are described as unhelpful, grumpy, and dismissive, particularly when asked for assistance (e.g., calling a taxi).
- Disrespectful Behavior: From aggressive gestures over opening a freezer for a few seconds to continuing to shout mean comments as customers leave, the level of disrespect reported is exceptionally high.
This pattern of aggressive and hostile interactions has led many visitors to describe the experience as "terrible" and "unwelcoming," ruining their overall impression of the beautiful location.
Poor Value & Quality (Even for Limited Items) 💸
Even for the few items that may be available, reviews indicate poor quality and high prices, reinforcing the perception of a "tourist trap."
- A sandwich consisting of "two cheese and one ham slices slapped between burnt toast from supermarket" was reportedly priced at 2.50€.
- A "double" Greek coffee was 4€, and tea 3.50€.
- Adding to the list of grievances, customers are reportedly required to pay for the use of the toilet facilities.
The View vs. The Experience 🏞️
There is no denying the spectacular panoramic views from this location, especially for those who undertake the walk up the 300 steps to the nearby little church, which offers even more stunning vistas. However, the overwhelmingly negative experiences with the establishment itself consistently overshadow the natural beauty. Visitors frequently state that the poor service and unwelcoming atmosphere severely detract from, or even ruin, the impression of visiting what should be a serene and picturesque spot.
Summary & Recommendation: Steer Clear for Food/Service 👎
While the location provides a magnificent backdrop, Ταβέρνα Πανόραμα, based on recent user feedback, appears to be an establishment best avoided for food or hospitality. The severe complaints regarding rude staff, non-existent restaurant services, and poor value for limited offerings are consistent. If you are in the area solely for the panoramic views and to visit the church, you might consider stopping only briefly for a quick glance, but be prepared for a potentially hostile encounter if you attempt to engage with the staff or purchase anything. For a pleasant dining or refreshment experience, it is highly recommended to seek alternatives elsewhere on Rhodes Island.
The view is spectacular but it is no longer operating as a restaurant. Just a limited selection of drinks. Not the most welcoming place. Worth the drive up especially if you then walk the 300 steps to the little church with superb panoramic views.
A terrible place, ruined the impression of visiting the church. The owner (a stout aged man) insulted me and my husband for no reason when we wanted to buy water. We ran away from there without looking back. How can this be in such a holy place?
Absolutely terrible place. Do not enter the restaurant unless you are dying of dehydration. Thought to buy a snack after being at the top. But asked the man behind the counter first if it was possible to get help calling a taxi. The way we were treated was miserable. He was very grumpy and rude. Simply a piece of s… The food was tourist trap deluxe. Steer away everyone.
Don’t go here unless you want to be treated disrespectfully. I went here with my girlfriend to buy an ice cream. After choosing what we wanted I opened the freezer for like 6 seconds to get the ice creams we wanted. The elderly man starts making weird/aggressive gestures. I asked what the problem was and he started shouting at me. I was done and wanted to leave, and my gf wanted to pay for the ice. The elderly man started making disrespectful comments when I got irritated by his behavior. After trying to reason with him I came to the conclusion I should better go outside. Even when I was walking outside he was shouting mean and childish things. What a c..t
Very rude waitress. Expensive. Bad quality. This is 2,5€ sandwitch (two cheese and one ham slices slapped between burnt toast from supermarket), 4€ “double” greek coffee and 3,5€ tea.Customers have to pay for toilet.
