Nestled away from the main tourist thoroughfares on Unnamed Road, Lindos 851 07, Greece, the Traditional Lindian House Museum offers a captivating journey into the authentic lifestyle of Rhodes Island. This charming establishment serves as both a museum and a unique point of interest, providing visitors with a rare opportunity to step back in time.
Many visitors describe the Traditional Lindian House Museum as a "gorgeous little gem" and a "beautifully preserved" historical site. It's a testament to a family's dedication, having been owned and maintained for generations. The museum proudly showcases the traditional Lindian, or Rhodian, house style, offering an immersive experience of how life used to be in this remarkable Greek community before it became primarily a tourist destination.
Inside, you'll discover a collection of original items and memorabilia, many of which belonged to the grandmother of the current, welcoming owner. These authentic artifacts provide a tangible connection to the past, allowing for a few moments of reflection on the history and culture of Lindos.
Being slightly "off the main paths," the museum offers a more intimate and less crowded experience compared to the bustling shops. Visitors frequently commend the warm welcome they receive, often accompanied by a brief explanation of the house and its history from the lovely lady owner. This personal touch enhances the visit, making it feel less like a commercial attraction and more like stepping into someone's home.
Beyond its historical exhibits, the Traditional Lindian House Museum also functions as a delightful souvenir shop. Unlike generic tourist outlets, the shop here boasts a selection of unique items that are difficult to find elsewhere in Lindos. Many patrons have expressed their joy at "stumbling across this gem" and finding one-of-a-kind treasures. Visitors are also encouraged to leave a donation to support the upkeep of this precious historical site.
While overwhelmingly positive, one review noted the presence of caged birds in the courtyard. This might be a point of consideration for some visitors. However, the overall sentiment highlights the museum's charm and educational value.
In summary, the Traditional Lindian House Museum is highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic cultural experience in Lindos. It's a place to appreciate history, admire traditional architecture, and find unique mementos, all within a welcoming, family-run setting.
What a gorgeous little gem. Owned by a family for many generations, this place showcases the traditional Lindian, or Rhodian house. Very charming
Beautifully preserved traditional house which includes original items owned by the grandmother of the current lovely lady owner. Because it’s little off the main paths it doesn’t feel like it’s visited as much as the main and less interesting tourist shops. were welcomed and given a little explanation. It also functions as a souvenir shop, with lots of choose from. You can also leave a donation - please do if you can.
Gorgeous house and shop with unique items that you can't find in the surrounding gift shops. Service was great - very happy I stumbled across this gem!
Traditional house in the centre of lindos that is sort of a collection of memorabilia from the time before lindos was just a tourist destination .Worth spending a few minutes reflecting on how life used to be in this remarkable Greek community.
I'm sure this place has it's charms but they're keeping birds in cages just inside the courtyard. I can't condone that. If that's your vibe then I'm sure there's some nice experiences to be had!
