Located in Turunç, Marmaris, Muğla, Türkiye, Turunç Halk Plajı (Public Beach) serves as a point of interest, a natural park area, and offers proximity to lodging. While the initial information suggested a location in Greece, all user reviews and the provided address firmly place it in Turkey. This review compiles insights from recent visitor experiences to provide a comprehensive overview.

Overall Impression: A Mixed Bag of Tranquility and Frustration

Turunç Halk Plajı receives a range of opinions, from high praise for its natural beauty and calm atmosphere in certain seasons to strong criticism regarding limited public access and overcrowding. Visitors often find the sea to be clean and inviting, but access to unencumbered public beach space can be a significant challenge.

The Beach Experience 🌊

Access and Space: A Limited Public Domain

  • The public beach is described as "not too big" and is typically divided into two smaller sections.
  • A common complaint highlights the extremely limited area designated for the public, with one review claiming it's as small as "100 square meters." This can lead to significant overcrowding, especially during peak times, making it difficult to find a spot or even swim comfortably without bumping into others.
  • Private occupation is a major theme: the public sections are often sandwiched between beaches belonging to private businesses, hotels, or cafes. This can restrict general access to the coastline and force visitors to either pay for private sunbeds/facilities or contend with the very small public area.
  • While some reviews mention "no problem finding a place" in September, others stress the need to "come early" to secure a spot, indicating that availability can fluctuate based on the month and time of day.

Beach and Sea Quality: Pebbles, Stones, and Turquoise Waters

  • The beach itself is primarily stony and pebbly, with some areas at the sea entrance also featuring larger stones. Visitors are advised that bringing their own chairs or umbrellas might be beneficial if they prefer not to sit directly on the pebbles.
  • The sea water frequently earns praise for its appearance, often described as "clean and turquoise,""very nice," and even "absolutely wonderful."
  • However, one reviewer noted the sea as "cloudy," possibly due to the high density of swimmers in the limited public area creating additional waves and stirring up the water.

Amenities: Basic at Best

  • Umbrellas: The public beach does offer some umbrellas, but their number is limited. Sunbeds are generally not available in the public sections and are primarily found on the private beach areas, often for a fee (which can be substantial, with one estimate of 500 TL/day).
  • Showers: There is a convenient "free shower" available at the public beach.
  • Toilets: A significant drawback mentioned by visitors is the absence of public toilets. Visitors often have to rely on the kindness of surrounding hotels to use their facilities.

Atmosphere & Crowding: A Tale of Two Seasons

The atmosphere at Turunç Halk Plajı appears to vary considerably depending on the season:

  • September: Described as "very quiet and relaxing," making it a good choice for those seeking tranquility outside the peak summer months.
  • Peak Season/General: Can be severely crowded due to the limited public space. One reviewer noted that the density of people can lead to swimmers constantly bumping into each other.

Logistics & Accommodation 🏨

If you're considering a stay in Turunç:

  • Accommodation: Prices for lodging in Turunç are considered "affordable compared to many other places." One reviewer shared an experience of finding accommodation just 50 meters from the beach for 1800 TL per night for 2 adults and 2 children, including breakfast, in September 2024. More expensive options, including dinner, are also available.
  • Road Access: A notable point of caution is the road leading to Turunç. It is described as a "mountainous and difficult winding road," which visitors should be prepared for.

Final Thoughts

Turunç Halk Plajı offers beautiful natural scenery and clear waters, making it an appealing destination. However, prospective visitors should be aware of the limited public beach space and the prevalence of private establishments along the coastline. Visiting during the shoulder seasons, like September, might offer a more relaxed experience with fewer crowds. Be prepared for a pebbly beach and the lack of public toilet facilities.

The public beach is in two parts and is between the business beaches. They have umbrellas but no sunbeds. There are not many umbrellas. There is no problem for those who bring their umbrella and chair with them. As of September, there is no problem finding a place. The beach is slightly harmless and pebbly, and some parts of the entrance points to the sea are pebbly and some parts are stony. But the sea has a clean and turquoise appearance. It is a very quiet and relaxing place for September.

They gave a small area for the public beach. There are beaches with private cafes along the coast. I didn't even ask about their fees, but it must be expensive because they are empty. The sea is cloudy, and since there are too many people per square meter, additional waves are formed in addition to the sea waves. When you try to swim, you bump into someone.

The sea is very nice and the beach is generally stony. Public beaches are located among paid or hotel-owned beaches. Accommodation prices are affordable compared to many other places. We had the opportunity to stay in a place 50 meters from the beach for 1800 TL per night for 2 people and 2 children, including breakfast, in September 2024. In fact, there are places where it costs around 4000 TL per night with dinner. The only drawback is the mountainous and difficult winding road.

Those who want to have a holiday in Turunç should definitely not think that it is beautiful by looking at the nice and complimentary comments, do not be fooled.First, there is no public beach. You cannot go to the sea on a daily basis because businesses occupy the sea. Before I forget, there is a 100 square meter area that the public can enter. Look, I'm not exaggerating, 100 square meters. If you add up, 100 people cannot sit and swim. My beautiful country has been occupied not only by immigration but also by businesses. If you want to enter with your family, you are either stuck in a business or you will have to go through very bad roads and go to the bays. The bays, which are full of praise, are full of sun loungers who the municipalities probably give to businesses to make money for someone else. You don't think that a sunbed costs less than 500 TL per day, do you? Anyway, you will say that the land has already been plundered, are you thinking about the sea? I think it is a bit too much for us, the people of this country, to dream of a sea where people can swim happily and peacefully with their families. Turunç is one of those who suffered this occupation. In short, there is absolutely no place in this beautiful place where you can enter as a human being without paying for the hotel. But you know, the decision is yours

Turunç public beach is a beach that is not too big, has its own umbrellas and has a free shower. It is recommended that you come early, otherwise you will not be able to find a place. As I said, it is not very big, but nature and the sea are absolutely wonderful.By the way, before I forget, there are no toilets. If you can escape to the toilets of the surrounding hotels, that's fine.
