View of the Gadoura Dam

FEATURES
Located at Epar.Od. Pastidas-Mesanagrou, Rodos 851 09, Greece, the View of the Gadoura Dam is a point of interest on Rhodes Island that offers panoramic vistas. This spot is categorized as a tourist attraction, and user reviews provide a mixed but informative picture of what visitors can expect.
Overall Experience and Scenery
The primary draw of the View of the Gadoura Dam is its scenic outlook. Many visitors have described the overall view as "amazing" and a "great vantage point for pictures." However, it's worth noting that the general consensus is that the beauty lies more in the expansive surrounding landscape than in the dam structure itself. One reviewer specifically mentioned that the "view is nice but not for the dam itself," suggesting that expectations should be set for a broader natural panorama rather than a direct view of the dam.
While some find the destination highly rewarding, others felt the visit might not be "worth the time" compared to other viewpoints available across the island. Interestingly, the drive itself to the dam is often highlighted as a positive experience, described as a "really cool area to drive in" with opportunities to "pull over and take in" other views along the way.
Accessibility and Road Conditions
Reaching the View of the Gadoura Dam requires navigating certain road conditions that visitors should be aware of. The drive has been characterized as potentially "dangerous and long," with strong advice to "go careful if driving." A recurring point in the reviews is the poor state of the roads, which are reportedly full of potholes, humorously compared to having "more holes in them than a block of swiss cheese." Therefore, travelers are advised to exercise extreme caution and drive slowly.
Parking and On-site Amenities
Visitors should be prepared for very limited parking at the viewpoint. The area offers only a "small parking area for 3-4 cars," which can quickly become a challenge during peak times. Furthermore, the site provides "almost no space to walk around," indicating that it is primarily a quick stop for viewing and photography rather than a location for extended exploration or leisurely strolls.
Best Time to Visit & Wildlife Encounters 🦌
For those aiming to capture the most stunning photographs and experience the best atmosphere, it is highly recommended to "go before sunset." This timing is ideal for favorable lighting conditions. An added, delightful bonus for visitors is the potential to encounter local wildlife. As one lucky reviewer noted, "If you are lucky you might see some deer there too."
Summary of User Recommendations:
- Drive Cautiously: Be prepared for a long drive on roads that may have numerous potholes; careful driving is essential.
- Optimal Timing: Visit before sunset to capture the best photographs and enjoy the most dramatic lighting.
- Set Expectations: The primary appeal is the broader landscape and surrounding views, not necessarily the dam itself.
- Limited Space: The parking area is very small, and there's minimal space to move around once you've arrived.
- Look for Wildlife: Keep an eye out for deer; you might be fortunate enough to spot them. 🦌
Great vantage point for pictures, go before sunset. If you are lucky you might see some deer there too.
Dangerous and long drive to and from here but amazing view. Go careful if driving
God dam!!This is not worth the time. The view is not a patch on some of the other views on the island.I gave it 2 stars as there are far better views to be had on the drive in (it's a really cool area to drive in) so pull over and take them in.The roads are interesting as well with more holes in them than a block of swiss cheese.
Small parking area for 3-4 cars. View is nice but not for the dam itself.
I can't name it a viewpoint, there's just a very small parking spot, also almost no space to walk around
