PAYMENT
The Virginia Family Resort on Rhodes Island, Greece, presents a distinctly mixed bag of experiences based on recent guest feedback. While some visitors have highlighted positives such as helpful staff and convenient location, a significant number of reviews point to considerable issues concerning accommodation quality, noise, and dining, leading to a polarizing reception among its guests.
đ What Guests Liked
- Staff & Service: Several guests found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful, with reception noted for being accommodating in addressing room change requests.
- Location & Transport: The resort's location was praised by some as being central for exploring Rhodes Island, with public transport being described as easy and cheap to use.
- Cleanliness (Contradictory): One review specifically mentioned rooms being spotlessly clean, although this stands in stark contrast to other guest comments.
- On-site Amenities: The on-site shop was noted as being very well stocked, offering plenty of choice.
- Exterior Appearance: The resort has undergone recent exterior painting, which gives it a modern and appealing look from the outside.
đ Areas for Concern
Rooms & Accommodation đïžđœ
This is a major point of contention among guests:
- Condition & Cleanliness: Multiple reviews describe rooms as "disgusting," "run down," and "not clean." Issues included poor maintenance and a general lack of hygiene.
- Noise & Soundproofing: A recurring complaint is the terrible sound insulation. Doors and windows reportedly don't close properly, allowing every sound from outside to penetrate. This is exacerbated by the hotel renting out party locations, causing rooms to "shake the whole night" due to loud music, severely impacting guests' ability to get sleep.
- Bathroom Issues: Bathrooms were cited as "very unhygienic," and guests frequently experienced difficulties getting warm water, describing it as a "game of roulette" that more often than not resulted in ice-cold showers. The toilet setup in some rooms was also noted as being "very open," lacking privacy for shy individuals.
- Lighting: Some rooms, particularly those in separate blocks or overlooking car parks, suffered from excessive light intrusion from hallway lights, making it too bright to sleep.
Dining & Drinks đœïžđč
The all-inclusive offering received widespread criticism:
- Food Quality & Temperature: Food is frequently described as "so bad and repetitive," and often served "never hot," sometimes only "okay bit cold." Specific examples include fish that seemed to have been left out too long before frying.
- Drink Quality: Beverages, particularly soft drinks like cola, were reported to taste like "coloured soda water," and alcoholic drinks were perceived to have a very low alcohol content (e.g., 1%). Many guests resorted to eating and drinking out due to the poor quality.
Entertainment & Facilities đđïž
- Loud Music & Poor Entertainment: The music at the pool was described as "ridiculously loud," with complaints often being ineffective. The overall entertainment program was deemed "awful" and lacking for anyone over 5 years old, primarily consisting of karaoke and quizzes, with only limited "real" entertainment (e.g., two days out of seven).
- Pool Temperature: The large swimming pool was notably "freezing cold," even in 30-degree Celsius weather, leading guests to quickly exit the water.
- Beach & Sun Loungers: The local beach was found to be "very disappointing," and there was a reported shortage of sun loungers at the resort.
- Other Issues: Occasional unpleasant smells were also reported around the premises.
đĄ Important Considerations
Potential guests should be aware of the significant inconsistencies in guest experiences. While some aspects like staff friendliness are generally positive, the fundamental issues surrounding room condition, hygiene, noise control, and food/drink quality appear to be widespread based on the lower-rated reviews. The stark difference in opinions, particularly regarding cleanliness, suggests that experiences can vary wildly, or that some positive reviews may not fully reflect common issues reported by others. One reviewer even speculated that positive reviews might be "generic" or "paid for," contributing to the confusion.
âïž Verdict
Virginia Family Resort appears to be a property with a recently updated exterior but potentially neglected interiors and services. Guests prioritizing basic comfort, hygiene, and a good night's sleep may find their stay challenging due to issues with room condition, pervasive noise, and unreliable amenities like hot water. Those looking for a central location and who don't mind eating and drinking out might find some value, but should be prepared for a potentially inconsistent experience with dining and on-site entertainment.
Don't go here! Terrible location! Doors and Windows might as well not exist considering they don't close properly and you can hear every sound on the other side. Bathroom seems very unhygienic. Getting warm water is a game of roulette, more often than not it's ice cold. And don't expect to get sleep. It's more important to them to rent out party locations to people whose music will make your room shake the whole night instead of ensuring their guests to get sleep! That's what you get for paying up front. Just avoid this place!!!
Awful place, never again,Rooms were disgusting we had 2 Rooms, large family. So run down and not clean,Music at the pool ridiculously loud, complained 3 times told me at reception they will call police, as I said I will turn it down, entertainment, well how bad was that, Awful, 2 day's from our 7 day stay they had someone in, rest of week it was karaoke and quiz, absolutely no entertainment if you over 5 yrs old,Food is so bad and repetitive, fish in batter must have been left out to dry for a week before frying for an hour, even cats hanging around had difficult time chewing it,Drinks are so bad, cola tastes like coloured soda water, alcohol must be 1% , we ended up eating out which was amazing food and drink,It's got recent exterior painting done which makes it look good from the outside, shame they didn't do the rooms, got plenty of pics which will be going online,Booked this place due to all positive reviews, after more examination it does appear to me they are very generic and either staff posting or paid for, worst place visited for over 30 years,
Loved our stay at Virginia Family Resort, location was central for getting round the island, public transport very easy and cheap to use. Rooms were spotlessly clean, staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Shop was very well stocked, plenty of choice of food. Beach beautiful. Will definitely come back.
We had a really nice week here. Room when we arrived was in a separate block. We booked a garden view . Got there at 1.30am. Room was on the road over looking the car park. There was a light in thd hallway that lit up the room all night. Way to bright to sleep. Apart from that the room was massive. So after hardly any sleep, we asked to changed rooms in the morning. We got moved to main hotel, much smaller room but not on the road and not over looking a car oark. Reception where very helpful. Hotel is nice. Food was good but never hot. The large swimming pool was freezing cold which was odd considering the weather was in it 30s. You got in and got out rather quick due to goosebumps all over your body.
Place is modern and 100% clean .food is okay bit cold .smells occasionally. Rooms are basic and toilet is very open and shy people not a place to sit .not enough sun lounges and local beach is verydisappointing. Entertainment low .taxi fares are fair and not too bad drive . 6 possibly 7 out of ten guys sorry . But was okay in general
