Mythos Beach Resort

FEATURES
PAYMENT
Mythos Beach Resort, located in Afantou, Rhodes Island, positions itself as a 4-5 star destination. However, user experiences suggest a nuanced reality. While praised for its recent renovations and family-friendly amenities, some guests find the resort's services and dining options fall short of luxury expectations, particularly given the price point.
📍 Location & Setting
The resort boasts a prime location right at the ocean, offering great views of the local area. Guests appreciate the direct beach access, though it's important to note that the beach is primarily pebbly rather than sandy, making swimming shoes essential for comfort. Its tranquil setting means it's "a bit far away from everything else," suggesting that a rental car is highly recommended for those wishing to explore Rhodes Island flexibly.
🛌 Accommodation
Rooms at Mythos Beach Resort are generally described as newly renovated, comfy, and sufficiently large, with nice bathrooms and functional mini-kitchens. The beds are noted as fine and firm. A significant drawback mentioned by one guest is the absence of an elevator or ramp to the second floor, which could be an issue for guests with mobility challenges.
🍽️ Dining Experience
Dining is a mixed bag for guests. The resort features at least three restaurants, including a buffet and an à la carte option. While the breakfast buffet is highly rated and there's a generally "large variety of foods" suitable even for vegetarians, some guests found the overall food quality to be "underwhelming," with a noticeable skew towards cakes over vegetables, implying it's "not healthy." A recurring frustration is the policy preventing guests from taking away unfinished food from the menu restaurant, and the perceived low quality of all-inclusive drinks at the pool and lobby bars.
Key Dining Criticisms:
- 🚫 No room service.
- 🚫 Policy against taking away unfinished food.
- 🍹 All-inclusive drinks described as simple and low quality.
- 🍎 Lack of fresh fruit available for purchase, either at the resort kiosk or the nearby market, despite Rhodes being a fruit-producing island.
🏊 Pools & Facilities
The resort features multiple pools, catering to different age groups: a baby/toddler pool, a larger kids' pool (70cm ), a deep pool, and indoor pools. Kids' facilities at the pool area are a definite positive. However, a significant complaint is that four out of five pools are too cold to use. While the hotel offers various sports facilities like mini-golf, football, basketball, and tennis, some areas, like the mini-golf, could benefit from more shade. The gym is adequate for general use, though perhaps not for serious athletes.
Family & Kid-Friendly Amenities:
- 👧 Extensive kids' facilities at the pool.
- 🤸 A good children's playground, accessible in the evenings. However, it's uncovered and too hot during the day.
- 🎭 Activities for children and some evening shows/events.
- 🎮 A game room exists, but it's noted as a "coin drainage" rather than a free indoor activity.
💡 Other Observations & Criticisms
- 💸 Some guests feel the resort is overpriced for the level of service and amenities offered, stating it feels more like a 3-star than a 5-star establishment.
- 🕒 The kid's club operates on limited hours, which can be inconvenient for families.
- ❌ The resort lacks a spa, cold bath, warm bath, or sauna.
- 🛍️ A small kiosk sells water, toys, and beverages, but one guest noted it also sells fake Pokémon cards.
- 🏨 The resort is largely specialized in package all-inclusive tours.
🎯 Overall Impression
Mythos Beach Resort presents itself as a newly renovated and attractive option, particularly for families seeking a comprehensive holiday package with a variety of pools and activities. The positive reviews highlight the beauty of the hotel, good room comfort, and ample recreational opportunities. However, the resort faces consistent criticism regarding its perceived value for money, a lack of certain luxury amenities (like room service or a full spa), and specific dining policies. For a relaxing stay with a focus on family fun and on-site activities, it could be a suitable choice, especially if you plan to rent a car for island exploration and are prepared for the pebbly beach. However, those expecting a true 5-star luxury experience with gourmet dining and extensive service might find it falls short.
Overpriced. This is not really a 5 star hotel, more like 3 star one, specialized on package all-inclusive tours. No room service. Only one restaurant where we were not allowed to take away the food we did not finish. Food is underwhelming. We ended up eating out or ordering delivery every day.Cold pools: this defeats the purpose of having 5 pools in a hotel if 4 of them are too cold to use.Kid club works only few hours per day, we were not able to use it due to kids sleeping schedule.Try something else.
I really dont understand why the hotel claimed to be 4-5 star, it is 4-5 stars only from the price. It does not have room service at once; only 2 restaurants, 1 buffet and 1 by menu (you can not get take away from this one, even the food you don’t finish - you can not take it, manager’s decision), 1 pool bar and 1 lobby bar with simple low quality all inclusive drinks (if you want something nicer - they don’t have it). The only good thing they have is kids facilities at the pool, kids playground is also good. That is it.
Newly renovated hotel. This is my fair and balanced review:We had a double room. It’s located right at the ocean with a beach and great views of the local area (although the beach is with pebbles and not so much sand). The rooms were very comfy and large enough. Bathrooms were nice, little functional kitchen although there are not many opportunities to cook yourself. Beds were fine and firm. Only drawback was, that there was no elevator or ramp to the 2nd floor. The pools were sufficiently large. One for babies/toddlers, one for larger kids (70 cm +) and a deep pool and also indoor pools. A spa, cold bath, warm bath and sauna had been a nice addition but were not there. The food was good although don’t expect it to be healthy - there were more cakes than vegetables. Generally a large variety of foods. Even vegetarians would be able to become full. There were at least three restaurants with a variety of dishes (not gourmet or Michelin restaurants but they are also not very expensive, so for the price absolutely fine). There were some sport facilities - mini golf, football, basketball and tennis. There could have been more trees eg at the mini golf area, as there was not sufficient shadow. The hotel was roomie enough and all buildings clean and maintained well. There are activities for the children and some shows and events some of the evenings. There could have been some more indoor activities also - there was a game room but it is a coin drainage. There is a playground for the children which can be accessed in the evenings. It is not covered so it’s to hot during the day. There is a gym with a few dumbbells and barbells, some machines and cardio machines. Fine, not enough for an athlete but fine for 95-99 %.There is a little kiosk with water, toys and beverages. It also sells fake Pokémon cards so be warned.Only thing that was not possible to buy was fresh fruit. The is also a small marked around the corner of the complex, but they did not sellfresh food which is puzzling as Rhodes produces fruits and vegetables. All in all we were very happy with our stay. Our main suggestion for the hotel would be to add some local produced foods and advertise with it (a very popular trend i Denmark - both to expose the local foods and to show interest in the health of one’s guests). But we would recommend the hotel to others.
Swimming shoes are important at hotel beach. Rental car is a must if you want to move around the Island flexibly.
Beautiful hotel and amenities.Great breakfast buffet.A bit far away from everything else though.
